Over one hundred Kittitians and Nevisians residing in Anguilla came out in large numbers on Thursday evening December 4, at the Teachers Resource Center in the Valley, Anguilla, to listen to Team Unity Leader Dr. The Hon. Timothy Harris and Hon. Eugene Hamilton deliver important messages of hope and opportunity under the theme “Restoring Democracy – Promoting Prosperity”.
The meeting/listening tour has been commended by members of the audience as a highly successful beginning of a tour that will continue on Friday evening in Virgin Gorda and Saturday in Tortola.
The audience comprised supporters of PAM, PLP, CCM, NRP and the Douglas Labour Party, all of whom applauded and applauded as both speakers addressed the issues of corruption, crime, constitutional breaches, dictatorship, citizenship by investment among other things as they impact the social and economic life in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis.
Hon. Eugene Hamilton was the first presenter focusing on the urgent need to put country above self as we approach the next General Elections. He signaled that PAM, PLP and CCM have done so by signing an MOU demonstrating the State is bigger than their individual political parties.
Hamilton stressed the need to question the decision of the government; to direct resources into private organizations rather than the Consolidated Fund of the State; sell large tracts of land to cancel debts; and he offered solutions that would empower women and youths and further provide sustainable employment to all enterprising individuals residing in the Federation.
Dr. The Hon. Timothy Harris spoke to a myriad of issues including the hardship of VAT, the economic stagnation, the prostitution of the Citizenship by Investment Program; the deliberate violation of our Constitution and he offered a new culture of governance that would be steeped in Democratic principles, the rule of law and respect for our Constitution.
He argued that Dr. Douglas has lost his way and that he has brought the country to being the laughing stock of the world. In the alternative he offered the audience a vision of a prosperous St. Kitts and Nevis where all are endeavoring and all are achieving. He further committed to work to bring progress to all the people of St. Kitts and Nevis. Dr. Harris said that Nevis will get its full share of the resources of the country including the SIDF and he promised that a Team Unity Government will work with the Nevis Island Administration in fulfilling its mandate to the people of Nevis
He charged the illegitimate government with corruption and with roguish conduct and he posited that contracts and laws being made over the past two years may be illegal and non-binding.
The issues raised by the presenters encouraged questions from the audience that were promptly and effectively answered by the presenters to the satisfaction of all.
Comments from supporters including former strong supporters of the Labour Party signaled that their support will be for Team Unity and further signals that the era of Douglas is over..
