Premier Parry Addresses General Public via Popular Radio Program

(CHARLESTOWN,NEVIS-THURSDAY, MARCH 19, 2009)  Premier of Nevis, the Hon. Joseph Parry, took to the airwaves to address the many issues, concerns and questions of Nevisians throughout the Diaspora on the popular radio program Let’s Talk on VON Radio, Tuesday night.
 
The Hon. Joseph Parry opened up the talk show by first speaking to host Evered “Webbo” Herbert on Air Travel in and out of Nevis. The Hon. Joseph Parry informed Mr. Herbert and listeners that the American Eagle will cease operations to and from Nevis temporarily from May-October and negotiations are ongoing with WINAIR.
 
Premier Parry also addressed the issue of the recent closure of the Four Seasons Resort. He said by all indications it is clear that owners and representatives from the Hotel want the property to open as soon as possible.
 
In discussing the issue of geothermal energy production, Premier Parry said that royalties from the alternative energy will be put into a fund for Sports, Health and Education on the island.
 
Mr. Parry spoke heavily on diversification of the Nevis Economy. He said, “It is my government’s mission to bring more industries to Nevis; and that is why we have been and continue to look at alternatives to Tourism.”  In this respect, Premier Parry outlined that the Financial Service Sector will be observed more closely. He noted that a Marketing Consultant has been brought in from Trinidad. The strategy, he said, is to move away from concentrating on North America and to follow Asia more closely.
 
As part of the Nevis Island Administration’s mission to show transparency, accountability and good governance, Premier Parry has made himself available through town hall meetings, one-on-one meetings and other avenues where he could listen to and answer questions, concerns and observations from the general public.
