BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, DecemberR 10th 2014 (CUOPM) – A call for local businessmen and women at home or overseas to seize the opportunities that will be needed to provide services at the Christophe Harbour Marina when completed.

Chairperson of the Sugar Industry Diversification Foundation (SIDF), Dr. Hermia Morton-Anthony speaking at a ceremony to celebrate the docking of the first yacht also praised the local workforce.

“Existing and new entrepreneurs will have opportunities to offer their services once the marina is open. Yachts will require maintenance, hence, the need for mechanics and engineers.  There will be need for provisions such as fruits, vegetables, fish, meat, drinks, ice and floral arrangements.  The services of taxi and tour operators, cleaning companies and entertainers will be required.  I urge our people, therefore, to be ready to seize the business opportunities that will become available when the marina is completed,” said Dr. Anthony.

She pointed out that the marina construction has provided additional jobs for the people of the Federation.

“Our citizens are involved in the actual construction as well as dock operations and the number of local employees is expected to increase.  We congratulate the local team for the high level of professionalism and commitment that has been demonstrated to move the project safely and quickly to this advanced stage,” Dr. Anthony said.

She commended Ms. Deon Johnson, the administrator employed by Devcon, the dredging company, for her outstanding contribution to this marina project.

“Devcon has recognized Ms. Johnson for her professionalism, exceptional work ethic and leadership.  American Bridge, the construction company, has reported that the men are hardworking and have proven themselves time after time by working on holidays and on Sundays when needed.  Two men have stood out as model construction workers.  They are Mr. Andrew Samuel and Mr. Stedroy Todd,” said Dr. Anthony.
