Basseterre, St.Kitts (TUCOM):-The members of Team Unity today elected to attend the National Parliament for the reading of the budget for 2015. This represented a departure from the stated position of Team Unity that it would not engage with the illegitimate minority government of Dr. Denzil Douglas. The decision to attend Parliament was not taken lightly but was arrived at after deep consultations between Team Unity members, their supporters and constituents.
Team Unity saw it as critical to attend the National Parliament today to use the national stage to set out for our people the stark difference in thinking, ethos and policy of Team Unity and the outgoing Labour/NRP regime. Our people we feel must be permitted to see the difference between what was and what we hope to be.
It must be clear to all that this Budget is an election budget with all the usual promises and giveaways that has become customary as a desperate leadership seeks to persuade our population to invest confidence yet again in its failed policies.
Team Unity therefore elected to attend the Parliament to set out for the Nation its Prosperity Agenda. Even now Team Unity's ideas such as the removal of the dreaded VAT on food items and medication are being embraced by the outgoing Labour/NRP regime.
The members of Team Unity will use the stage of our once respected National Parliament just as the byways and highways of our Nation to speak to our people. Our message is one of hope, one of patriotism, one of justice and fairness, one of a better relationship between St. Kitts and Nevis based on mutual respect and trust.
Team Unity wishes however to be clear that its decision to attend Parliament and give voice to its plans, programs and policies, does in no way changes Team Unity's firm conviction that this minority regime is illegitimate and has succeeded in debasing our once respected National Parliament.
The members of Team Unity invites Kittitians and Nevisians at home and abroad to tune in tomorrow as the elected majority presents its powerful formula for change. Join us as we chart a new course for our country. Help us restore decency and good governance to this our beloved Nation.
