BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – OVER 60 individuals from Constituency 6 and neighbouring communities walked away empowered to make more informed financial decisions following a Money Management session organized by the Constituency 6 Young Labour.

Prudent saving, wise spending and conscious debt management were among some of the issues tabled as young and old were engaged in fruitful discussions about pragmatic approach to achieve fiscal prudence.

The presenter for the evening was finance and money expert Yvonne Williams who has had over ten years of professional experience in banking and accounting. She focused on the importance of budgeting and cutting costs and gave detailed explanations relating to mortgage, compound interest and reducing standing debt.

“Being a conscious spender means living within your means. Planning for your own future and not being totally dependent on some pension plan or social security. You could be a conscious spender and have fun while maximizing your pleasure and creating lasting memories for your children.

“This presentation catered to a range of persons from varying socio-economic backgrounds, working at all levels and for a wide range of salaries. It doesn’t matter how much money you make, savings, investments and wise spending should remain very important,” Williams said to SKNVibes.

Newly-elected Vice President of the organization Meshach Alford told SKNVibes that he was very pleased with the interest shown by the audience and the interaction they had with the presenter. He commended his team for putting together the session adding that persons from the constituency as well as groups from Sandy Point and Old Road came out to be part of the presentation.

“It is important for us to not only provide the necessary information regarding wise spending but it is also critical that we assess our individual situations and see how the information can better position us. In light of this, we will be having internal follow-up to ensure that the recommendations made in this forum are being implemented.

“This discussion was timely as many of the young persons are currently working or have plans for university and so this presentation has opened their eyes about the necessary preparations before they take the next step.”

Alford projected that similar discussions on a wide array of topics would be organized as he added that “it is important for us to continue empowering our own people”.

The Constituency 6 Young Labour Organization represents the “engine of the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party” and has been committed to the social development of the constituents to enhance their individual and collective lives.
