BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE drag racing track at St. James’ Raceway in Nevis was left smoking on Sunday afternoon (Dec. 14), as that venue hosted Grudges 2 Fast and Loud which featured battles between car owners from St. Kitts and Nevis.
After a qualifying round the cars were grouped into categories based on their qualifying times.
The afternoon saw a number of hotly-contested battles.
Despite its diminutive size, King of Cali, owned by Gavin Clarke of Nevis, proved that it still remains one of the fastest cars in the region as it outshone all others, including its closest rival, Edge, owned by Sherlock Queeley of St. Kitts. The car dipped below six seconds on a number of occasions.
King of Cali was declared winner of the Open Category, beating Edge in a best of three with the first race seeing the challenger not even leaving the starting blocks because of a blowout.
In the second match up, King of Cali proved its worth and smoked Edge in the competition.
Ricky Pennyfeather captured the 10 Seconds Category and a battle had ensued between St. Kitts’ Regiwell Francis and a Nevisian driver known as Whiskey in a best of three match up for the 11 Seconds crown.
Francis, who had some fast reaction times at the start, captured the first race but his fast starts were not enough as Whiskey copped the final two races, including a nail-biting final that saw him clipping Francis at the line.
A few hundred drag racing enthusiasts went out to witness the event, including a large contingent from St. Kitts filling the Sea Bridge to capacity, which had to make extra runs to accommodate the fans.
There were also battles in the 14 and 12 Seconds Categories.
