Basseterre, St. Kitts, March 20, 2009 (SKNIS): Officials from the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) toured the ongoing construction of the Juvenile Coed Rehabilitation Center of St. Kitts and Nevis on Thursday, and reports suggest that they were pleased with the progress.

Funding for construction was secured from the Caribbean Development Bank at an approximate cost of $5.2 million.

Project Coordinator Raphael Archibald told SKNIS that Mr. Stephen Sandiford and Dr. Martin Baptiste were grateful for the opportunity to review latest developments. The team was informed that the project remains on schedule in the construction of the juvenile center as well as training for the consultancy services.

As a policy, CDB representatives do not make public comments until a project is completed, and as such, none were issued after the visit. However, Mr. Archibald noted that the visitors were generally satisfied with developments.

The center is being built at Harris’ Village on a 3.1 acre lot. The facility is one component of Government’s Child Development Project (CDP) which seeks to improve the status of children at risk by supporting programmes of early detection and remediation of behavioural and learning difficulties as well as rehabilitative care for persons who have committed offenses.
