BASSETERRE St. Kitts, December 17th, 2014 -- Residential Burglaries are the # ONE Crime this Month in St. Kitts. The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force wants to help reduce your chances of being a victim.
Here are a few tips to reduce the chance of your home being burglarized:
• Keep your yard looking cared for and neat.
• Make it sound like someone is home by leaving the radio on, tuned to a talk radio station or news network.
• Install light timers and motion detector lighting. Program them to come on early evening and turn off late evening.
• Use dead bolts on EVERY exterior door.
• Use sliding window/door locks, sticks & pins
• Be observant for persons working alone or with others and those that knock on doors to see if someone is home.
• Keep an eye out for people parking in your neighborhood and walking around on foot to several homes.
• Be the best witness you can be!
• Get details of anyone you feel is suspicious.
• Write the information down to help you remember details.
• Suspects often wear backpacks or carry bags to haul items away from burglaries.
• Make note of clothing, vehicle descriptions and other unique characteristics.
The Police Force is here to help YOU, but we need YOUR help in identifying potential burglars before they can victimize residents.
If you see ANY suspicious behaviour, call 869-465-2241 or 9-1-1 if it appears to be "in progress.
