GIS Press Release

Roadtown, Tortola - Cabinet has approved the addition of seven persons to the Territory’s Stop List, making it prudent that steps be taken to prevent their re-entry into the Virgin Islands (UK).

The decision taken earlier this month brings to 36 the number of persons barred from re-entering the Territory since 2007.
Four of the seven persons added this year are from the Dominican Republic and the other three are from Jamaica, Puerto Rico and St.Vincent and the Grenadines.

Their offences included among other things, illegal entry, possession of an illegal document and furnishing false information, possession and importation of cannabis with intent to supply and overstaying their landing permits.

Of the persons entered on the stop list in 2007, seven are from St. Vincent and the Grenadines, five from Jamaica, five from the United States of America and two from the Dominican Republic.

There was also one each from Anguilla, Barbados, Colombia, Dominica, France, Grenada, Guyana, Italy, St. Lucia and St. Kitts and Nevis.

The offences committed by those included on the 2007 list cover a range of deviant activities including forgery, illegal entry, human trafficking, overstaying, indecent assault, unlawful sexual intercourse, burglary, possession of an unlicensed firearm, drug possession and theft.

The placement of ‘undesirable’ persons on the Stop List is in accordance with Section 25 of the Immigration and Passport Ordinance, Cap 130. To be considered for inclusion on the Stop List, persons would be deemed to have conducted themselves in the Territory in an undesirable manner or for those landing, consideration would be based on information or advice about their undesirability provided by reliable sources.
