BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – SHOTS rang out earlier this morning (Dec. 21) on Victoria Road in the vicinity of 17 Degrees which resulted in a man being wounded and is in hospital receiving treatment for his injury.
Unconfirmed reports suggest that the incident took place sometime between 6:00 a.m. and 6:45 a.m. just outside of 17 Degrees, also known as Pulse Arena, where the popular Cooler Fete was being held.
SKNVibes understands that the man had exited 17 Degrees when he was reportedly approached by an individual who opened fire in his direction and he was struck during the process.
The injured man then ran back into 17 Degrees and requested help from the people who were there.
One of the organisers and a police officer, who was performing security duties at the event, transported the wounded man to the Joseph N. France General Hospital and was taken into the operating room for medical attention.
This publication understands that the incident may have caused the Cooler Fete to end prematurely.
The incident comes less than 24 hours after local entertainer Ashkenaz was shot while in the West Farm Mountain area. He too was transported to the Hospital where he received treatment for non-life threatening injuries.
A police communiqué, issued after an earlier publication of this incident, stated that one person is currently in custody assisting with the investigation.
Persons having information about any of these incidents are asked to make contact with the nearest police station or call the Violent Crimes Unit at 465-1886/1887 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477.
