Miss National Bank wins National Carnival Queen crown

TIshima Browne, the Sugar Mas 43 National Carnival Queen!!

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – IT is expected to be an intense and keenly-contested competition with five beauties from St. Kitts and Nevis vying for the coveted title of Miss Sugar Mas 43 National Carnival Queen.

     

    All seats at the home of Sugar Mas, Carnival Village, are filled and there is standing room only as persons have come out in their numbers to cheer on their favourite contestant.

     

    The beauties have already taken the stage in their fanfare number and are impressing the crowd with their creative swimwear.

     

    8:17p.m. - Contestant Number One Tishima Brown appears on stage in her two-piece red suimsuit adorned with silver sequence. It is dubbed "Liberated" and was created by Calvin Tobias.

     

    8:24p.m. - Shaneil Francis - Miss Development Bank - was second on stage in a lovely neon-green two-piece swimsuit much to the crowd's anjoyent. It is dubbed "Opulance".

     

    8:32p.m. - In a piece dubbed "Bedazzled", Jackiema Flemming graced the stage in a aqua-coloured one piece suit for this segment. The top was laced with jewels and that represented the beauty of hidden jewels which can be found in the Caribbean Sea.

     

    8:45p.m. - "Heavenly Mist" was the name fo Zaiesha Joseph's - Miss ZIZ - swimsuit. She worre a one-piece pink number with a low back, which was accentuated with cinderella platform heels.

     

    8:51p.m. - It was true "Tropical Sunshine" when Akiesha Fergus appeared on stage in a yellow two-piece number which was adorned with a silver-print design.

     

    As a lead-up to Segment Number Two, National Pride, the in-house band, the Green House Band, provided musical entertainment.

     

    - National Pride segment -

     

    Tishima Browne - Appeared on stage in a piece called "The Enchanted Coral Sea Nymph". It displayed various elements of the sea, captured in a kaleidoscope of colours including turquoise, purple and red. The headpiece displayed various forms of coral, shells and tiny fish.

     

    Shaneil Francis – Her "4G" piece represented green energy and green landscaping and was a celebration of agro-tourism, sustainable development and the decentralization of the economic activity of St. Kitts and Nevis.

     

    Jakeima Flemming - Depicted a frolicking golfer on our pristine scenic world-renowned gold course. She entered the stage with a piece that featured golf clubs and balls on the layered fabric and feathers in varying shades emphasizing the textured beauty of the golf course. 

     

    Zaiesha Joseph – "Sports Coverage" was the name of her piece and it depicted the work of her sponsor ZIZ and the achievements of St. Kitts and Nevis in the area of sports including basketball, netball and football.

     

    Akiesa Fergus – Her piece dubbed "From Whence we came" focussed on the massacre of 1626 at Stone Fort and in a display of national pride, reflected her tribute to our fallen warriors. She wore a traditional Carib Headpiece adorned with feathers in our national colours.

     

    - Talent Segment -

     

    9:40p.m. - Miss National Bank -  Tishima Browne struck a vivid comparison between the music of yesteryear and today and maintained that she prefers the smooth sounds of the days of old and could not content with the fast rhythms and lyrics of the moderm era.

     

    9:54p.m. - Miss Development Bank - Shaneil Francis claimed to be ready for love in the dramatization/song she performed for her talent piece. She suggested that there were not enough good men in the Federation especially since crime has claimed the lives of many and others are rotting away at Her Majesty's Prison.

     

    10:06p.m. - Miss Lime - Jakiema Flemming in her musical drama portrayed a woman who gloried in the money that her 'man' made and gave to her. She loved money but began getting quite angry when he suggested that she further her education and get a degree. The situation was made worse when she found that he was seeing another women. Needless to say, it did not end well.

     

    10:18p.m. - Miss ZIZ - Zaiesha Joseph portrayed a schizophrenic individual who was seeking help with her illness through counseling and leaning to play musical instruments, the steelpan and the violin. 

     

    10:25p.m. - Mis Carib Breweries - Akiesha Fergus in a calypso rendition, begs the authorities to take action is curbing the problem of single-parenting which often is result of the neglect of men in taking responsibility for their children.

     

    10:32p.m. - Saxophonist Rohan Jeffers provides musical entertainment ahead of the Evening Wear Segment. He plays a beautiful rendition of John Legend's 'All of Me'. 

     

    10:43p.m. - The Green House Band brings a little bit of hype to the event with its rendition of a number of popular hits including 'Personally'. Meanwhile the crowd anxiously waits for the contestants to appear on stage in their evening wear.

     

     - Evening Wear - 
     
    Tishima Browne - She flaunts an elegant trumpet-styled gown which she calls 'The Horizon'. It was designed by herself and her team and was made by Randy Madray of Guyana.
     
    Shaneil Francis - She is adorned in a mosaic of turquiose illumination that glistens like the Caribbean Sea on a warm summer day. The plunging translucent bodice flows into a daring slit. The high neckline and asymmetrical back cut-out makes the gown one of a kind. It is called "Fountain of Youth".
     
    Jackiema Flemming - She wears a rouge contemporary-styled gown titled "Endless Fury".
     
    Zaiesha Joseph - She sports a piece made of multiple shades of purple  which is dubbed "Shades of Innocence". The silhouette of elegance and glamour is made of organza and beaded lace. The top is heavily embellished with gems and rhinestones with a deep plunging back, epitomising the true Shades of Innocence (Love, Devotion, Feelings, Emotions).
     
    Akiesha Fergus - She appeared in a gown called 'Rebirth' which is reminiscent of the emergence of the black volcanic sand which was previously tinged by red river waters. She complements her gown with silver iridescent accessories.
     
     - Interview Segment - 
     
    All contestants went through this segment with relative ease. They were asked questions based on their various platforms and are now appearing on stage while the Sugar Mas 42 National Carnival Queen Kaeve 'Mimi' Armstrong is taking her final walk.
     
    12:26a.m. - MIss LIME Jakiema Flemming wins the Miss Photogenic Award.
     
    12:27a.m. - Shaniel Francis Miss Development Bank has won both the Miss Amity Award and the People's Choice Award.
     
    12:29a.m. - MISS LIME, Jakiema Flemming was given the Chairman's Award.
     
    Best Swimwear - Jakiema Flemming
    Best National Pride Costume - Akiesha Fergus
    Best Talent - Tishima Browne
    Best Evening Wear - Jakiema Flemming 
    Best Onstage Interview - Tishima Browne
     
    2nd Runner-up - Miss LIME Jakiema Flemming (672 points)
    1st Runner-up - Miss Carib Brewery Akiesha Fergus (676 points)
    Queen - Miss St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla National Bank Tishima Brown (721.5 points)
