BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – HOURS after the last of the reportedly incident-free street activities for Sugar Mas 43 ended last evening, a man was shot in Basseterre and is currently warded at the JNF Hospital.
Reports reaching SKNVibes, which were confirmed by the police, state that one Shawn Huggins was shot last night (Jan. 3) in the region of one of his eyes in the vicinity of Shamari’s Fish Shop on Upper Market Street, Basseterre.
According to an individual, who chose to remain anonymous, “About 11:30 last night I heard a single shot fired and I saw some people running towards Shamari’s Fish Shop. I then decided to follow them to see what was happening. When I got there, I saw a man lying on the ground and it seemed as if one of his eyes was damaged. I heard someone saying that his name is Huggins and that he does ride a black Ninja motorbike and normally be in Tortola. However, shortly after my arrival at the scene, he was rushed to the hospital by a public-spirited individual in a private vehicle.”
A police communiqué stated initial investigation revealed that Huggins resides at Pond’s Extension and he was attacked by an unknown assailant or assailants.
“Anyone who has any I formation pertaining to this shooting incident is asked to call the Violent Crime Unit at 467-1886, 467-1887, the nearest Police station, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477(TIPS). Remember, you do not have to provide your personal information, and you may be eligible to receive a reward,” the communiqué said.
Just three days earlier, a male Tabernacle resident was shot above one of his eyes in the vicinity of the Basseterre Ferry Terminal, and on the penultimate day of last year Devon Ryan of McKnight was shot to death in the same vicinity.
