Public servants get second portion of salary increase in January

    BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, JANUARY 12TH 2015 (CUOPM) – The take home pay of public servants in St. Kitts and Nevis will go up when they get their next pay check.

     

    The three percent hike, is part of a ten percent increase – spread over three years - announced in December 2013 by the Federation’s Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas.

     

    Public servants received a four percent increase in January 2014. An additional three percent is due on January 20th 2015 and the other three percent will be paid in January 2016.

     

    Government auxiliary workers also received a ten percent increase spread over three years and will also receive an additional three percent in January this year and a further three percent in January 2016.

     

    Public officers and persons in the People Employment Programme (PEP) also received an extra month’s salary in December.

     

    Public officers will be paid on January 20th and pensioners on the 21st.

     

    Last June, Prime Minister Douglas also announced an increase in Social Security Pensions with effect from July 1, 2014.

     

    Government also increased the minimum wage from EC$8 an hour to EC$9 an hour or EC$360 per 40-hour week.
