CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – THE Jeffers sisters, Jessica, Marva and Judy, all of Cotton Ground, were among four women who appeared in the Charlestown Magistrate’s Court yesterday (Mar. 24) to answer charges of disorderly conduct.

The other woman was Lisa Browne, also of Cotton Ground, who along with the sisters pleaded guilty before Magistrate Yasmin Clarke. The women told the court that they were reacting to the treatment their nephew and sons received from the police after being ordered 12 strokes last Tuesday.

Magistrate Clarke told the ladies that they had a chance to talk in the court and they did not. She also told them that they should be glad that she was lenient with their sons instead of sending them to prison. The magistrate also said that their behaviour was disrespectful and should it happen again she would send them to prison.

Lisa Browne, Marva and Judy Jeffers were each fined $1 000, which must be paid in three months, or spend three months in prison. Jessica Jeffers was fined $1 500 which she must pay within three months or spend three months in prison.

Meanwhile, Joseph Williams of Government Road and Lesroy Tuitt of Clay Ghaut were both fined $2 000 for possession of cannabis. The fines are to be paid in three months or the men will go to jail for three months.

Meanwhile, Jason Campbell, Curtis Isaac, Omari Riley and Keshorn Guilbert were remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison until March 31 after being charged for throwing missiles. The incident took place last Tuesday at the Charlestown Pier.
