BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – YOUTH from all over St. Kitts will interact and dialogue with one another at tonight’s (Mar. 25) Youth Chat at the Ocean Terrace Inn.

The forum is being held under the patronage of Prime Minister (PM) the Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas and Deputy PM the Hon. Sam Condor.

Participants will be able to forward their suggestions on key issues such as crime and violence to these Ministers as well as the other government officials that will be present. Youth Director Geoffrey Hanley noted these concerns would be compiled and forwarded to the relevant government departments and ministries.

Additionally, the results of the CARICOM Youth Dreams survey, in which young persons were asked to outline the various issues affecting them, will be formally presented to PM Douglas.

Presentations will be delivered by various young persons on matters affecting youth including education, land, sports and extracurricular activities.

Hanley stated that the objective of the forum is to establish a continued audience with the young people of the country. He stressed the importance of such an audience, saying that it would enable youth to become comfortable expressing their views on issues that confront them on a daily basis.

“The Youth Department is always considering initiatives and interventions that would help to meet the needs of young persons. That is our mandate.

“The Youth Chat is designed to facilitate youth-to-youth and youth-to-government interaction. Persons will also gain a better understanding of the country’s youth organisations and how they function and some of the challenges they face,” Hanley said.
