Unity No. 6 candidate to be revealed Thursday

By: Terresa McCall, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – CONSTITUENCY Number Six is one of two on St. Kitts that has always been won by a representative of the St. Kitts and Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) and is currently occupied by Leader of the Party and Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas.

After many months, Team Unity has indicated that it is on the brink of releasing the name of and introducing to the public the individual who would go up against Dr. Douglas for that seat.

In an interview with SKNVibes, and as was mentioned recently on the Team’s political platform, the candidate would be unveiled on Thursday (Jan. 22) at a public meeting to be held at Dieppe Bay.

“Team Unity would launch its person, a young and professional candidate for Number Six and we are happy that we can get someone coming out of the heart of that Constituency who recognise the imperative of the time for change for fairness for all in the country, decency back to the government. And brave and courageous enough is that person to want to take up a challenge against the illegal Prime Minister. So we are on our mark in relation to that and that we will disclose at that public meeting.”

In the past, on its own political platform, members of Team Unity have nicknamed the candidate “Mr. V”. But recently, SKNVibes has gotten information which suggests that another individual, who hails from the heart of St. Paul’s, has been considered.

A Unity press release describes the candidate as a “popular former civil servant” who “has already begun to canvass and meet constituents…”

Given the history of the Constituency Number Six seat, SKNVibes questioned Harris about his confidence of taking it from the Prime Minister and he emphatically expressed that the Team would capture the seat.

“We are confident that in this election Dr. Douglas will be rejected by the people. We are absolutely confident that there is no way, boundary change or no boundary change, Dr. Douglas will get Six seat, and we believe the disaster that happened (Friday) would have convinced more people, especially those who are independent-minded, that Dr. Douglas is bad for the country.”

With the dissolution of the Federal Parliament last Friday (Jan. 16), the election date has to be announced within 90 days, but it is being suggested that it might take place within the next two weeks.
