Press Release

Basseterre, St. Kitts - On Tuesday March 24, the St Kitts-Nevis Defence Force (SKNDF) deployed a contingent of soldiers to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago as part of the Joint Inter-Agency Multi-National Task Force (JIMTF) established exclusively for safety and security of the delegates for the Fifth Summit of the Americas (V-SOA) scheduled for Trinidad and Tobago on April 17-19.

The aim of the deployment is to assist the Ministry of National Security of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago in ensuring the safety and security of the hemispheric leaders attending the conference.

The SKNDF soldiers will join military personnel from CARICOM who comprises the Joint Inter-Agency Multi-National Task Force established to undertake the security operations for V-SOA.

A Canadian Military Airbus, A310, transported the St. Kitts-Nevis military contingent to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. The soldiers will remain in that country under the Treaty for Security Assistance Act among CARICOM Member States as well as the Visiting Forces Act 2007 (both legacy of Cricket world Cup 2007) until the Summit’s conclusion and all visiting delegates and government officials attending would have returned to their respective countries.
