Information system upgrade begins at Nevis’ Alexandra Hospital

    NIA CHARLESTOWN Nevis (February 04, 2015) -- The Health Ministry on Nevis continues to make strides to improve health care delivery on the island. The Alexandra Hospital began the first of a two-phase hospital system upgrade on Friday 30 January, 2015.

     

    Hospital Administrator Gary Pemberton told the Department of Information that the hospital’s information system was undergoing development, to improve data collection which would help to provide better services to clients at the Alexandra Hospital.
     
    Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health Nicole Slack-Liburd, gave an overview of the project.
     
    “We’re one of the several health facilities in the Federation involved in this hospital information system upgrade… 
     
    “The first phase would involve the upgrade of a few of our systems including pharmacy, accounting and medical records system,” she said.
     
    Slack-Liburd explained that the upgrade would entail identification cards which would be used to store patient’s medical information that would be important for follow-up care by the attending physician. 
     
    Slack-Liburd took the opportunity to thank the Government of Taiwan on behalf of the Ministry of Health and the Nevis Island Administration for its technical assistance with the upgrade.
