Man shot at Baker’s Corner

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – SHORTLY before the shooting-death of Kevin ‘Judgment’ Francis and gunshot wound(s) of Brian Wilkinson on Tuesday evening (Feb. 3) in Sandy Point, a young man was shot in the vicinity of Baker’s Corner in Basseterre.  

     

    Reports reaching this publication stated that two shots were fired at the young man who suffered injury to one of his hands and, in an effort to evade life-threatening injuries, sought refuge in a Chinese supermarket on Wellington Road.

    When contacted, the Police Press and Public Relations Officer, Inspector Lyndon David, confirmed that the incident did occur and gave the name of the victim as one Shakeil Chumney.

    He however declared that circumstances surrounding the incident are unknown at this time and the police are currently investigating.

    On Tuesday evening the 26-year-old Francis of Parsons Village who, it is said had only recently (two day) went to reside in Sandy Point, was shot several times to the body, including his head; while the 21-year-old Wilkinson of Cleverly Hill was shot in the region of his chest.

    Reportedly, the incident occurred in the vicinity of Soho and Farms Site, from where Wilkinson was seen running. He was transported to the Pogson Hospital in Sandy Point by the police, who shortly after found the motionless body of Francis in the backyard of a home in Soho.

    A police communiqué had stated that following initial investigations by the Violent Crime Unit, “four persons are in custody assisting with the investigation”.

    It also stated that “anyone who has any information pertaining to this shooting incident is asked to call the Violent Crime Unit at467-1886, 467-1887, 662-9336, the nearest Police station, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477(TIPS). Remember, you do not have to provide your personal information, and you may be eligible to receive a reward.”

    Francis’ death has taken the number of homicides committed in the Federation for the year to five; three on St. Kitts and two on Nevis.
