Roadtown, Tortola - Six local fire officers will soon be returning home after participating in a 12-week training course held by the Recruit Academy for Emergency Services Training Institute.

According to Acting Deputy Chief Fire Officer, Mr. William Penn, Messrs Winston Farrington, Clifford Thomas, Avery Malone, Nathan McLean, Cleve Davis, and Kevin Prince of the Fire and Rescue Services Department left the Territory on January 5 to attend the training course in Texas.

As part of the training session the officers covered fire fighting operations, hazardous material awareness and operations, breathing apparatus and emergency vehicle operations.  The training was delivered through lectures, video and skill presentations, demonstrations, student teaching sessions and practical fire ground exercises.

“The Recruit Academy for Emergency Services Training Institute is a premier institution that will aid in the development of fire officers through intense classroom and physical training as well as state-of-the-art hands on application,” said Mr. Penn.

He further stated that “upon completion of the training course the officers are expected to demonstrate a high level of knowledge of operational fire fighting techniques and they should be able to plan, prepare, conduct, supervise and analyse practical operational risk inspection at the scene.”
The fire officers are expected to complete their training today and should return home within the next week.

The Fire and Rescue Service is committed to protecting life and property from the effects of fire and all other man-made and natural accidents and disasters.
