Basseterre, St.Kitts (TUCOM-February 5th 2015):- Team UNITY Leader Hon. Dr. Timothy Harris has re-emphasised the commitment to ensure FULL Time Permanent Employment for ALL PEP workers who want to work.
In another successfully staged Public Meeting in Challengers Village Leader Hon. Dr. Harris declared that all PEP Workers will receive a “Step UP”.
The popular Opposition Alliance Leader said: “We say it is our vision to see our people taking advantage of the opportunities that will lead to a prosperous St. Kitts and Nevis. This is why we can offer to the 4000 people on the PEP Programme a better deal…a Step UP. PEP workers will get a Step-UP under a Team UNITY Government. A step up to permanent jobs through private and public sector partnerships. A Team UNITY government will ensure that every single PEP worker who wants to work will get permanent sustainable employment.”
“Team UNITY’s “Prosperity Agenda” will include programmes to assist, facilitate and support the private sector to create more jobs. Unity’s plan is to put the Country back to work by repairing its economic and social fabric. PEP was introduced by Douglas as a short-term response to a structural and long term problem. Unity will do better for PEP workers. We will put the economy to work to provide them with full time jobs that will allow them to meet their commitments and take care of their families. NO PEP WORKER WILLING TO WORK WILL BE SENT HOME,” said Dr. Harris.
Team UNITY’s commitment to providing full time employment for PEP workers is one of a number of the coalition’s pillar initiatives that will form the basis of the Team UNITY Prosperity Agenda.
Other initiatives to be introduced by a Team UNITY government includes a plethora of innovative new policies that have excited the Nation and our people, including the Removal of VAT from ALL Foods, Medicine, Educational Supplies and Funeral Expenses, as well as the introduction of a Universal National Health Insurance Plan, Universal Pre-school Programme (Free Pre-school), Reduction of Low Income Home Mortgages and Student Loan payments .
