Digicel Makes Donation To Police

Press Release

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (March 26th 2009)- On March 26th 2009, at the Port Zante offices of Digicel, Mr. Sean Latty, country manager of Digicel, made a presentation of twenty-eight (28) Samsung mobile phones to the Royal St.Christopher-Nevis Police Force.

In handing over the mobile phones, Mr. Latty said that his company wants to provide service that allows communication between all the Police Stations on St. Kitts and Nevis, as well as to the Anti-gang unit so that its members can communicate with each other free of charge.

Mr. Latty also gave a commitment to further extend Digicels assistance in the fight against crime in the form of a texting service, where members of the community can communicate with the police via text from their Digicel phones. This service he promised, will be available shortly.

In accepting the contribution, Commissioner Williams said that he was very pleased to accept the gifts, noting that a strong police community partnership is the single most valuable tool in combating and reducing crime in any society.  It is vital, he said, that this partnership be aggressively pursued in the future.  He said that this package from Digicel will make a dent in the Forces quest to enhance its communication network and used the opportunity to appeal to the business community to partner with the police so that we can provide effective security for all.
