    February 10th, 2015  --  (France Caraïbe Communication) The 60th Summit of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States marked the accession of Martinique to Associate Membership of the OECS. Martinique is now the first French territory to sit as Associate Member side by side with Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, St. Kitts and Nevis, Saint-Lucia, Saint-Vincent and the Grenadines, Montserrat and Anguilla. It was a solemn moment filled with emotion which allowed the President of the Regional Council to express his enthusiasm in view of this fraternal commitment and to announce the flagship cooperation projects between Martinique and its Caribbean neighbours.

    Among them, the following can be cited:

    • The organisation with the State, in the context of the World Climate Conference in December in Paris, a Caribbean conference on climatic change;

    • The joint implementation of a linguistic and educational immersion mechanism for Martinican youths, within families and high schools as part of a Caribbean ERASMUS  programme baptised CESAIRUS ;

    • Implementation of a conference on connectivity in the Caribbean including: air travel, maritime transport, energy, numeric connectivity, television, etc.;

    • The launch of an Immersion Exchange programme in the area of tourism enabling exchanges between Martinique and Antigua & Barbuda;

    • A call for projects in light of a sail ship cargo service for the development of inter-island import-export commercial exchange;

    • The installation of a cyclotron to better detect and treat cancer, a concrete example of medical solidarity in the Caribbean.
