Privy Council rules for Elections on old boundaries

By: Terresa McCall, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE Privy Council has issued a ruling in the injunction case between Mark Brantley et al and the Attorney-General et al this morning (Feb 12), that the Elections of February 16, 2015 would proceed on the old boundaries.

The case was argued yesterday before the Council and judgment was reserved until today.

Among the orders of that Court are: that the ruling of Justice Marlene Carter of the High Court and that of the Eastern Caribbean Court of Appeal to set aside the injunction which prohibited use of the Constituency Boundaries Commission’s final report for boundary realignment, be set aside and that any effect that the proclamation of January 16, 2015 would continue to have, is suspended until further order.

It also ordered that the Voters’ List which would be used in the upcoming General Elections is that which existed “prior to and apart from the proclamation…”

SKNVibes spoke with Leader of Team Unity Dr. Timothy Harris just moments after the judgment was delivered and he said there is rejoicing in the Unity Camp, across the Federation and across the region because democracy has been restored.

A more detailed report would be published by this media house shortly.
