Thousands Of Youth Attend Rally For LOVE , RESPECT And UNITY

    Basseterre, St. Kitts, February 13th, 2015 - Thousands of youth rallied for LOVE, RESPECT AND UNITY  to show support for Team UNITY. Youth from across the Island danced, sang, shouted together because as one young person stated and all the artistes sang , " We need change".

     

    The event featured all local artists including PUMPA who was born and raised in  Cayon but is now based in the Virgin Islands. Other artists included Footsy, HiLight, I-Mark, Nicha B, Grand Masters, Mr Bagnall, Kollishun and Road March Champions Small Axe. The massive event was hosted by Kymberly Ward and Mr. Hype Bjorn Bassue.
     
    Ian 'Patches' Liburd was greeted by the crowd with a resounding applause.  
     
    Patches stated,"This event shows that young people want UNITY.  They too want a government that is focused on addressing their needs. Team UNITY understands our youth must have opportunity. They must be able to a get a good paying job. They must be able to live in safe neighborhoods. They must be able to buy land and build a home here in St. Kitts and Nevis. Our young people need to live in a country free of victimization and polarization. They deserve better. We in Team UNITY will give them better."
     
    Jonel Powell, candidate in Constituency Number 2 and one of the organizers stated, "As a young person, I understand the plight of young people. I know Team UNITY has big plans for youth and young adults. I know Team UNITY has big plans to address our issues. It will be a new day after Monday, February 16. Young people will voice our concerns on Monday.  We will not be marginalized any longer. Team UNITY has a big tent that includes youth and young adults."
     
    The rally also featured a  Team UNITY best dressed outfit. 
     
    For hours upon hours the young people shouted FAMILY!, UNITY!
     
    When asked by the Chair of the event why do you support Team UNITY, one young woman replied, "Because I want better for my children."
     
    On hearing the young woman's response, Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris said: "We must give her better. We will give her better! That is why we are here. That is why we do what we do!  We must give her better than we she has now. There are no excuses. We must give her a better government that will make her life better. I want her to say five years from now that her life was better than it was today."
     
    Team UNITY thanks all youth and young adults that attended the massive and historic rally. In the Manifesto it states that Team UNITY is "Determined to build a society a free of violence, fear, intimidation, hatred, patronage, corruption, and founded on justice, fairness, openness, transparency, dignity and equality".  In other words, LOVE RESPECT and UNITY.
     
    The industries of sport, entertainment and culture are all considered some of the most booming sectors globally. The new Team UNITY government will seek to capitalize on this by employing the services of our top Sports, Entertainment and Cultural personalities who will assist and work with the Ministry of Tourism, the St.Kitts and Nevis Tourism Authority and the Department of Culture, to help promote the destination in the Caribbean, North American and European markets.
     
    They will also assist in the development of Sports and Culture in the schools all while facilitating their pursuits as Cultural, Sports or Entertainment professionals. Some of these local artistes will be employed as or simply engaged and recognised in various capacities from Envoys to Ambassadors.
     
    The naming of these special Sports, Cultural and Entertainment Ambassadors and Envoys will be selected periodically and the list will be updated with a periodic review of the list through evaluation.
