BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - TEAM Unity Candidate for Constituency Two, Jonel Powell has called on all essential services personnel to boycott the early voting process today (Feb. 14) and vote on Election Day next Monday.
Speaking at a public meeting in Sandy Point last evening (Feb. 13), Powell indicated that he was yet to receive an early voters’ list.
“Imagine this evening I get a message saying that early voting tomorrow for essential services workers. Imagine they want to have early voting tomorrow and up to now we ain’t get no list for tomorrow that ain’t sound like cheating?”
He then made a plea to the workers to wait until Monday to vote.
“To all of the police, the firemen, the nurses, the doctors and whoever else they call essential services, we are calling on you not to go out and vote tomorrow.
“Come out and vote on Election Day Monday, February 16. They cannot penalise you if you do not go tomorrow and they can’t stop you from going on Monday. It is time that people in this country start to put your foot down.”
The early voting process has come under heavy scrutiny since the law was passed in October with questions such as, when would the votes be counted and where would the ballot boxes be stored, among others.
