February 23rd, 2015 -- The general public is cordially invited to our second annual Nevis Culture Yard celebration on Friday, February 27, 2015 at 10am-5pm on the grounds of the Hamilton Museum in Charlestown.
The Nevis Culture Yard is a cooperative effort of the NHCS, Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park, Ministry and Department of Education & and Ministry of Tourism. We collaborate to educate on our theme: Celebrating Our Islands, Our Culture, Our People!
The aim of this event is to preserve, to protect, to promote, and to practice our culture, to engender civic pride, and to celebrate and showcase the artistic skills of our people.
This year we showcase the local painters, the shoemaker, the craft makers, the pottery makers, the dress makers, the herbal medicines, the hairdressers and the bag makers.
There will be performances from our students in the creative and performing arts of: drawing, dancing, drumming and singing.
It is a full day’s event. There will be performances at 10am, 1pm and 3 pm.
The students who won the VON Radio Quiz will also be awarded their prizes at Nevis Culture Yard.
To continue our cultural celebration, there will be the tasty local cuisine of Saltfish and Johnny Cakes; Cook-up and lots more on sale during the lunch period. So come and buy your lunch and join us on Friday, February 27, 2015 at 10am-5pm on the grounds of the Hamilton Museum in Charlestown for Nevis Culture Yard.
