Basseterre, St. Kitts, February 23, 2015 (SKNIS) -- The audience who attended the Swearing In of the new Federal Cabinet of St. Kitts and Nevis was nothing short of jubilant as the portfolios of the Ministers of Government were announced on Sunday, February 22, 2015.
The crowd cheered and applauded loudly as Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Sylvester Harris accepted the portfolios of Finance, Sustainable Development, National Security, People Empowerment and Constituency Empowerment.
When Honourable Shawn Kenneth Richards was named as Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Education, Youth, Sport and Culture spectators jumped to their feet and cheered for several minutes while waving various colourful parphanelia. Honourable Ian “Patches” Liburd was given the portfolios of Public Infrastructure, Posts, Urban Development and Transport; Honourable Lindsay Fitzpatrick Grant was named as Minister of Tourism, International Trade, Industry and Commerce while Honourable Eugene Alistair Hamilton is now Minister of Agriculture, Health and National Health Insurance, Human Settlements, Community Development, Gender Affairs, Social Services, Lands and Cooperatives.
The Ministers from the Nevis Island Administration who now form part of the Federal Cabinet of St. Kitts and Nevis are Honourable Mark Anthony Graham Brantley, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Aviation while Honourable Vance Winkworth Amory is Senior Minister and Minister of Nevis Affairs, Labour, Social Security and Ecclesiastical Affairs.
Honourable Senator Wendy Colleen Phipps was identified as Minister of State within the Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender Affairs and Social Services and as such would assist Honourable Eugene Hamilton with his portfolio. Senator Vincent Fitzgerald Byron, who was previously sworn in as Attorney General, was given the additional portfolios of Justice, Legal Affairs and Communications.
Honourable Michael Perkins will now serve as Senator in the Federal Parliament.
