Gold and Red Houses win at Cayon High Sports

By: Loshaun Dixon, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - GOLD was the triumphant color at the Cayon High School Sports Day, but despite their dominance it was Red which captured the overall title.

On a chilly and windy Thursday afternoon (Mar. 5), members of the Cayon community and surrounding areas came out in their hundreds to view the athletes of that school at their annual meet.

A March Past got the afternoon's activities underway where the athletes of all four houses were on display.

Trailing Red House by 54.5 points, Gold House needed a strong response on Sports Day to give themselves any hope of catching the leaders. However, they were only to garner a 27-point lead on Sports Day giving Red the overall victory.

The athletes of the school however did not disappoint as some performances had the crowed in awe.

One such athlete was Wayne Matthew of Red House who impressed in the 200 metres leaving his competitors in the dust to record victory by 20 metres. When he reappeared to compete in the 100 metres, he had attracted some individuals to track side to again witness his performance.

Matthew did not disappoint them as he broke a 20-year record setting a new mark of 10.81 seconds.

Also at the Sports Day a battle developed between Trivon Rogers of Green House and Joel Henry of Red House. Rogers drew first blood in the 800 metres battle but was defeated by Henry in a close race in the 1500 metres.

Gold House and Red athletes however went home the happiest bunch after victory on the day.

Cayon High School will be looking to improve on their 11th place finish at the TDC Inter-School Championships to be staged in two-weeks time.
