Bar-B-Que vendor shot near home

By: Stanford Conway, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A Bar-B-Que vendor is said to be in a critical condition at the Joseph N France Hospital after being shot just outside his home early this morning (Mar. 7).

The vendor, whose name was given as Malcolm Cozier of Upper West Bourne Ghaut, was shot in the chest area sometime after 3:00 a.m.

According to family sources, Cozier, who plies his trade under a tree on the western end of the bridge opposite Coury’s Hardware Store on the Bay Road in Basseterre, was shot while removing his cooking utensils from a cart he had parked outside his home.

“I learnt that sometime after 3:00 going to 4:00 this morning after Malcolm had reached home, he had taken some of the things that he uses to prepare his Bar-B-Que from his cart and put them in his house.

“The cart was parked on West Bourne Ghaut just outside the alley where he lives. However, when he went to back to get the remaining stuff, I understand that someone shot him. I strongly believe that robbery was the motive,” a family member told this publication.

SKNVibes understands that Cozier is in his 40s and is a former Special Constable of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force.

Numerous calls to get a comment from the Acting Commissioner, Stafford Liburd, Assistant Commissioner Ian Queeley and the Force’s Press and Public Relations Officer went unanswered. However, SKNVibes was told that the matter is under investigation.
