Grant prevails despite massive voter padding and refusal of Returning Officer to remove almost 200 objected names

The Hon. Lindsay Grant
Press Release Team Unity Secretariat

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, March 9, 2015 (Team Unity Secretariat) -  The Official Results of the recently concluded SKN General Elections have been released. The results show a clear and near emphatic victory for the Team UNITY Alliance which returned 7 of the 11 seats up for grabs.

One of the victors for Team UNITY was former People’s Action Movement Leader Lindsay Grant. This was Grant’s third attempt at winning a seat that most felt was really his seat to begin with. Countless cases of electoral fraud and irregularities pervaded that constituency ever since Grant first ran as  a candidate there in 2004.

This time around it was no different as the constituency #4 list consisted of hundreds of of illegally registered voters. In fact almost 200 of those Voters had been objected to and despite clear evidence to support the objections and remove the names they remained on the list. Ag Supervisor of Elections Wingrove “Parrot” George has been the Registration Officer  there for the 2 elections. Mr. George while serving as registration officer repeatedly ignored objection claims of Mr Grant, despite the evidence.

Grant’s constituency also had massive voter padding orchestrated by the Incumbent Dr. Denzil Douglas led administration.

Despite this Grant continued to work and endear himself even more to the constituency. He in fact became the people’s constituency representative.

With almost 200 illegally registered persons, most of whom are from Const #6, on the list it would seem like a daunting battle for Grant in a constituency that is considered marginal at best.

It was obvious in walking the streets of the constituency the people clearly favoured Lindsay Grant. But with the presence of almost 200 illegally registered persons from Const #6 everyone knew it would be a tough battle.

Lindsay Grant prevailed. He finally got what was due to him . The people of constituency#4 finally got the representative they voted for and they wanted. The influence of the illegal registrants was not enough to overpower the shear will of the people of constituency#4. They wanted Mr Grant and they came out and gave their support and got what they wanted. A real representative.

Grant won the seat by 36 votes according to the official results.

Hon. Lindsay Grant was named Minister of Tourism, International Trade, Industry and Commerce in the historic new Team UNITY Government.
