BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla National Bank will be encouraging the advancement of the nation’s youth tomorrow (Apr. 1), as it prepares for the official opening the new Edgar T. Morris Primary School library at 9:30 am.

The project is expected to increase the availability of academic literature, assist children in taking advantage of educational opportunities and allow teachers to have access to additional resource material.

Speaking to SKNVibes, National Bank Marketing and Public Relations Officer Sheridan Hendrickson informed that the private sector must find a means to partner with the public sector if education is to improve in St. Kitts-Nevis.

“The opening of the library at the Edgar T. Morris Primary School is the next step in the National Bank library programme. Through this we hope to return the necessary attention to the education of our children, as we recognize that the future of the Federation is in the hands of our children and their success will determine how we go forward as a people.

“There is much competition between books and technology in the new era of education, but it is equally important that youth continue to read books as it is the fundamental step in developing young brilliant minds. We acknowledge that our literacy rate is very high and National Bank is committed to maintaining and even increasing it,” Hendrickson said.

Hendrickson encouraged members of the public to come out to the opening ceremony and urged individuals to donate books to their school libraries, as “one book can greatly impact an entire school”.

She also encouraged corporate citizens to join in the work that National Bank has started as it “works harder today for a brighter tomorrow”.

The Bank has sponsored similar projects at the Tyrell Williams, Sandy Point and Saddlers Primary Schools, and has invested EC $50,000 in its library enhancement programme. The institution intends to invest an additional EC $50,000 in similar projects later this year.
