Our Govt. was stolen from us…says Dr. Douglas

Former Prime Minister Dr. the Hon. Denzil Douglas at Labour meeting on Market Street

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – FORMER Prime Minister and Leader of the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP), Dr. the Hon. Denzil Douglas told a massive crowd of supporters last night (Mar. 12) that the Government was stolen from his party at the last General Elections.

Dr. Douglas made this disclosure in Market Street at what was claimed to be the first in a series of post election political campaigns.

“We have had our government stolen from us. We ain’t lose no election! Six hundred people have been disenfranchised, Labour People. We ain’t interfered with no PAM voters. All their flights came in, not one of their flights had any problem. What the hell they interfere with our flights for?”

He told his party supporters that after waiting for some time, they have asked for an investigation into the matter because “we ain’t gon tek is so. And despite all of that, they couldn’t get the majority of votes”.

The former Prime Minister claimed that flights organised by the SKNLP were sabotaged and that had caused Dr. Asim Martin and Glenn Phillip to lose their seats.

“Asim needed four more votes…the flight had on 91 passengers for East Basseterre for Asim. Ghost lost by 26 votes…they had on that flight 66 people to vote. You understand…you think we must tek it so?”

He reiterated that every single SKNLP flight was sabotaged but his party did not interfere with any of those chartered by the People’s Action Movement.

“Sabotage…openly sabotaging the flights that were bringing in the Labour Party supporters from abroad! Every single flight that the Labour Party had organised was sabotaged. From Jamaica, it was sabotaged; from Miami, New York it was sabotaged. From Canada it was sabotaged; from the US Virgin Islands and the BVI, they were sabotaged.

“…Over 600 people were disenfranchised. We did not interfere with any of the flights of PAM people coming in to vote. Wha the hell they interfere with our flights foh? And that is why I say to you, you must be vigilant, you must be ready at any time my dear people, because we ain’t gon tek it so.”

He made reference to the revelations of a female whom he claimed was working on the flights from the US Virgin Islands

“I spoke to a young lady from Nevis who was in the Virgin Islands working on the flights at what time the manifest was completely prepared…right name, right date of birth, right passport number, 135 persons ready to board. By the time they ready to board, their names called out, their names turned upside down. The names for everybody were almost the same. How could you have so many twins born on the same day? How could you have so many people on one flight have the same date of birth? That went on, sometimes three and four times. So a flight where you had 135 people on the ground in St. Thomas ready to come, the flight could have only bring 51 because all kinds of wrong information was being given when the people is standing there with the right documents to fly.”

The party Leader however intoned: “Despite all that was done in this last campaign, despite the deception and the lies, despite the sabotage that took place on Election Day and the three days that led up to the 16th day of February, we still command the support here in St. Kitts and Nevis.”

Earlier in his address, Dr. Douglas did acknowledge that the SKNLP had lost the Government but boasted on the achievements made during its tenure in office.

“We have lost our government, a good Labour government, one that cared for the people of St. Kitts and Nevis, one that led this country for the last nearly 20 years and projected our country to number one height compared to all the countries in the Caribbean region. And that is why I can say to you tonight that we are proud of our record, proud of what we have achieved with the ministers of government and the Public Service and those who have supported the Labour Party over the years. We have achieved levels that are unsurpassed in the past.”

Dr. Douglas said he would continue to lead the SKNLP until his supporters say he should go home and rest, and promised his supporters that his party would keep the Team Unity Government’s feet to the fire for it to deliver the promises made to the nation.

He also promised his supporters that the SKNLP would not rest until Team Unity gets out of office.

“Labour will not rest, Labour will continue to agitate and mobilise. Labour will not rest until this government is removed from office, because it does not deserve to be here to represent the people of St. Kitts and Nevis.”
