Roadtown, Tortola - The Virgin Islands will join the rest of the world in observing Records and Information Management (RIM) Month in April under the theme, The Impact that Records and Information Management has on Global Business.

RIM is observed annually to give records and information management specialists an opportunity to highlight the value of records and information and their work.

Chief Records Management Officer Mrs. Verna Penn Moll told the Department of Information and Public Relations given the fact that the Archives and Records Management Unit is relatively young, the need to highlight the value of records and information management and legislation, staff and accommodation in support of records management is even more relevant.

The Archives and Records Management Unit has planned a number of activities during the month and the Deputy Governor is expected to open the activities with a radio address.

Highlights of the week are the continuance of Records Management Compliance Exercises with government offices, in-house education features for records officers, public events such as an Exhibition of Photographs by local photographers on April 16, an Open House at the unit, the announcement of the Deputy Governor’s History Research Programme and a History Research Workshop and the launch of the unit’s website on April 30.

Records and Information Management Day was first observed in 1995 by the American Records Management Association as a day to focus public attention on the importance of records and information management as well as advocating the passage of the Paperwork Reduction Act.  The day was expanded to a week in 1997 and to a month in 2003.
