BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - A man who is believed to have been involved in the shooting incident that took place on Wednesday (Mar. 18) at Fort Thomas Road has turned himself over to the police, a high-ranking police officer has confirmed.

Acting Commissioner of Police Stafford Liburd told SKNVibes that the man turned himself in either on Wednesday or yesterday (Mar. 19) in the company of his lawyer.

According to reports reaching this publication, sometime before 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, a man emerged from an alley in Fort Thomas Road and reportedly fired a number of shots in the direction of an off-duty police officer who was making his way across said road.

The officer reportedly responded by drawing his service pistol and firing two shots into the air which resulted in the gunman ceasing his enterprise.

It is said that the perpetrator fled the scene and managed to escape by entering a house via one portal and exiting via another.

Other police officers were summoned to the scene and investigations were made. They were subsequently joined by a heavily-armed contingent from the Defence Force.

Acting COP Liburd did not indicate whether the man was charged in connection with the incident or did he indicate whether he is likely to be.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing and individuals with relevant information are asked to contact the Violent Crimes Unit at 467-1887 or 662-9336, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477 or the nearest police station.
