BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE Charles E Mills Secondary School’s (CEMSS) Eagles seem to be flying away with the 2015 TDC Inter-School Championships title after adding 14 gold medals on day two to the previous day’s five of the competition, as records continued to tumble at the Silver Jubilee Stadium.
CEMSS rode their momentum following day one of the competition with stellar performance on day two (Saturday, Mar. 22); a day which saw 22 records being broken with the defending champions accounting for nine.
After breaking the record in the Under-16 Boys Long Jump on Friday, CEMSS’ Dimetre Browne added the Under-16 Boys High Jump (1.80m) and the Under-6 Boys 200m (22.46) to his list of honours on day two as one of his schools standout performers.
Also adding to CEMSS gold medal tally and records haul were Sharim Hamilton who won the Under-14 Boys 800m in 2:16.80 and Reanda Richards who captured the Under-18 Girls 800m in 2:18.73, while Ketriana Huggins captured the Under-14 Girls 200m in 25.76.
CEMSS also went on to set records in three of the 4x400 metres Relays as they eventually won four out of seven in that series.
Other standout performances on the day came from Nashaunte Sutton of Washington Archibald High School, who won the 3000m Girls Open in a new record of 11:45.33. Her schoolmate Royden Peets left the audience in awe in the Under-14 Boys 200 metres as he left his competitors in the dust while setting a new record of 23.69.
Shanice Elliott of Verchilds High won the Female 200 metres in a new record of 24.84 as she staved off a challenge from Hannah Mills of Washington Archibald High.
Tah-j Liburd of Charlestown Secondary captured the Under-18 Boys 800 metres in a new record time of 1:59.01; an event where he totally outclassed his opponents who themselves seemed shocked at his performance.
Heading into the final day of competition, the defending champions have a 10-gold medal difference on their nearest competitor Washington Archibald High School.
