Janet Jagan – an unrivaled political force, says PM Douglas

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, APRIL 2ND 2009 (CUOPM) – St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas has described the late President of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, Her Excellency Mrs. Janet Jagan as “an unrivaled political force and an advocate who dedicated her life to the service of the people of Guyana.”
 
“Throughout her political career President Jagan attained many historical firsts and blazed a trail for women in the region and the world over,” said Prime Minister Douglas in a message to Guyana’s President His Excellency Mr. Bharrat Jagdeo.
 
Dr. Douglas said the former Guyana president will be remembered for the instrumental role she played in Guyana’s struggle for Independence and that the Republic of Guyana and the Caribbean Region have indeed lost a “truly inspiring and dynamic individual.
 
“On behalf of the Government and People of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis and on my own behalf, I extend sincere condolences to the Government and People of the Republic of Guyana at this time of mourning,” said Dr. Douglas, who requested that deepest sympathies be extended to the bereaved family.
