St.Kitts-Nevis UNITY Government Continues to Deliver as Renaming of Athletic Stadium in Honor of the Legendary Kim Collins Set for His Birthday on Sunday at the 44TH CARIFTA Games

    Basseterre, St.Kitts (April 4th 2015):- The Team UNITY Government continues to Deliver as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Sports in the new St.Kitts-Nevis Team UNITY Administration the Hon. Shawn K. Richards has announced that World Track Legend Kim Collins will be recognized during the 44th CARIFTA Games with the renaming of the athletic stadium in his honor.

     

    Richards made the announcement during his address to open the games on a cool Friday evening at the Bird Rock Stadium . The Official renaming Ceremony will take place on Sunday April 5th ,which also happens to be his birthday, at 3pm at the start of the afternoon session of the CARIFTA Games. 

    Collins is expected to fly in for the occasion from Europe where he has been blazing the Indoor Track season with an undefeated 2015 Indoor season thus far. 

    Kim Collins was the 100m World Champion in 2003 and became the first OECS national to make it to the 100m Olympic Final in the year 2000. Kim Collins continues to compete in international meets, and holds the record for the fastest man over age 35 with a time of 9.98 seconds at age 38 years. 

    Collins is currently the Number 1 Ranked 60m sprinter in the World and is regarded as one of the most decorated Caribbean sprinters in history. 
     
    Team Unity pledged to give national  icons, sports men and women and entertainers  their due, and this renaming is the beginning of delivery on that commitment.
