Windy Conditions Force Carnival Liberty To Cancel Call to St. Kitts Today

Carnival Liberty
By: Tourism Authority, Press Release

BASSETERRE (10th April, 2015): The cruise ship, Carnival Liberty, cancelled its call to St. Kitts today due to weather conditions, which would not have allowed the ship to dock at Port Zante.

St. Christopher Air and Sea Port Authority (SCASPA) has confirmed that cancellation was due to a collaborative decision made by the captain and the local ship pilots, who have gathered nautical data, which indicates that the wind is not conducive to the Carnival Liberty docking at Port Zante.

The ship has been rerouted to Dominica.

Last week the St. Kitts Tourism Authority announced that the Carnival Liberty had replaced the Carnival Valor on weekly calls, which is on every Friday.

Carnival executives made this decision when the 2014-’15 cruise itinerary was being created. In addition, for the 2015-‘16 season Carnival will be offering 7 to 10-day Caribbean Cruises on the Carnival Liberty.

Also, St. Kitts will receive calls from two of Royal Caribbean's Oasis-class vessels during the 2016 summer season, Oasis of the Seas and Allure of the Seas.   Further, the destination will be receiving an increased overall number of port calls during summer 2016 from Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines' vessels, reaching a record high number of total calls for during this period.

This year, St. Kitts will also be receiving six calls from Royal Caribbean International's Quantum of the Seas in its inaugural 2014/2015 season. It will also be receiving seven calls from the Anthem of the Seas in its inaugural 2015/2016 season.

With Cruise traffic in the 2014/2015 season is expected to reach a million passengers, St. Kitts has become a leading Caribbean cruise destination. The destination is rated #2 in the entire Caribbean in cruise passenger satisfaction according to cruise research by the FCCA.
