Pelican Bay, a 226 unit resort hotel under construction in Frigate Bay, has recently announced the creation of an innovative charity fund on the island. The company will award two grants in the amount of EC$5000 each, to two charities that are chosen by the citizens of St. Kitts.
The ‘Great Charity Giveaway’ campaign allows local charitable entities to submit proposals on how they would use the funds to benefit St Kitts. The management at Pelican Bay will then select 6 finalists from the submitted entries to enter a final round where they will be judged by the general public. Qualifying proposals will be posted online and St. Kitts residents will be able to vote on which proposal they believe is most deserving of the funds. The two entries with the most votes will be awarded the funds.
Pelican Bay director Charles Ross was quoted as saying “although we are proud to be developing a hotel resort that will be an asset to St Kitts tourism for years to come, we also recognize the need as a company to contribute and give back to the St Kitts community as a whole. This is a great tool to improve the local community and allow the citizens to choose the charitable causes that they feel are most important to the nation” said Pelican Bay Director Charles Ross. He went on to note that “The campaign is empowering both the charities as well as the voters to truly make a difference on the island”
The deadline for charities to submit their proposals is close of business May 6th. The six finalists will then be posted for public voting ending at 5:00 PM EST May 20th. 2015. Winners will be announced during a handing-over ceremony within two weeks of initial posting.
