BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - AN experienced West Indian batsman will be leading the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots in their debut season of Caribbean Premier League.

The disclosure was made by Neil Patel, General Manager of St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots, during a press conference earlier this week at the Yu Lounge.

Patel was asked by this publication if the captain was already identified for the games which bowl off in June.

"As for the captain, we have Marlon Samuels who will be representing us along with Martin Guptill from New Zealand as our vice captain."

Patel also identified some of the other internationals who make up the team.

"We have a host of international players including Shahid Afridi from Pakistan, Sohail Tanvir from Pakistan. Also, we have two local players who will be representing us from Nevis and St. Kitts."

He then declared the team’s aim for this year's CPL.

"We have a squad which is fairly formidable. With four internationals, we should be able to perform to a reasonable good level in reaching at least the Quarter Finals."

Patel further stated that the franchise also intends to remain in the Federation for the long term and establish a brand that represents the people of St. Kitts and Nevis.

"Our intentions are not a short term come and go. The whole idea of the franchise envisaged is that we should be here for a longer period to establish a team brand which represents the people of St. Kitts and Nevis and put back into the economy by promoting sports at all levels."

Samuels had led the Antigua Hawkbills during the first two seasons of the Caribbean Premier League.
