Ian “Patches” Liburd Launches East Basseterre Social Assistance Fund

    Minister of Public Infrastructure, Posts, Urban Development , Energy and  Transport in the St. Kitts-Nevis ruling Team UNITY Administration Hon. Ian “Patches” Liburd has launched the East Basseterre Social Assistance Fund. The First Time MP announced the programme as one of his commitments to the people of East Basseterre once elected during the recently concluded Election Campaign. As one of his many promises to the people of East Basseterre Liburd committed a portion of his monthly salary to the people of East Basseterre. On Thursday evening the nature of and administration details of the fund was released.

     


    Former General Manager of the SKNA National Bank Mr Ernest Jimmy Pistana was announced as the Chairman of the board of the Fund. Other board members include Chris “Moonlight” Roberts, Leasa Lewis, RANDY “Africa” Caines and Cleopatra Lake. A first installment to the fund of $7850 was announced and presented at a symbolic ceremony held during a Community Townhall Meeting at the Newtown Community Center.

    At the Townhall Meeting Liburd took the opportunity to announce a number of developments for the East Basseterre Community including the construction of a new Multi-Story housing project to replace the long dilapidated Wellington Road housing. The development will see the construction of 2 and 3 bedroom apartments in a multi-storey styled construct. Liburd also announced the construction of an Eastline Bus Terminal which will be located in a reconstructed section of the Public Works Department.
