BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - MALE and female volleyballers in St. Kitts and Nevis remain in contention for a place at the 2016 Olympics after  third and fourth place finishes respectively in the North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation (NORCECA) Beach Volleyball Continental Cup.

The male tournament was contested over the weekend of April 25 and 26 at Castaway Beach in Antigua and was won by the St. Lucians.

According to the NORCECA website, "St. Lucia conquered the event claiming first place unbeaten after three intense days of competition; their performance was demanding and showing determination to finish on top, while exhaustion proved to be no limitation to reach their objective.

"The winners advanced to the final series beating Antigua & Barbuda 3-1 earlier in the day, which took the hosts to play one more series defeating St. Kitts & Nevis."

The St. Kitts and Nevis team made up of Everson Browne, Sterdroy Collins, Kemoroy Percival and St. Clair Hodge, defeated Dutch St. Martin and Dominica on their way to a third place finish after losing to Antigua and Barbuda in the final round.

On the distaff side, played this past weekend, the Kittitian and Nevisian women captured fourth place, as the quartet of Brenda Allen, Shanicia Dyer, Gnelle Howell and Michell Demming earned a spot in the next leg of qualification.

NORCECA website reported: "As topped seeded in the tournament, St. Lucia swept their way winning every series to confirm their position, and along with Antigua & Barbuda, French St. Martin, St. Kitts & Nevis, Dominica and Grenada will face CAZOVA’s top six in the next round of the NORCECA Beach Volleyball Continental Cup."

The Caribbean Zonal Volleyball Association (CAZOVA) also completed their competition this past weekend in Jamaica.
