Press Release

Six of the eight public high schools within the Federation were represented by their student companies which showcased products made by the students at the JA Company Program highlight annual event – JA Company Trade Fair, held on May 08, 2015.  The participating schools were the Basseterrre High School, Cayon High School, Charlestown Secondary School, Gingerland Secondary School, Verchilds High School and the Washington Archibald High School. The ‘green themed’ products were made either from a natural resource or recycled materials such as plastic bottles, sugar cane, plastic spoons, bamboo, local herbs and sand.   The end products included hair clips, multiplas, pencil holders and sharpeners, picture frames, clocks, plant holders, magazine holders, and earrings, just to name a few.

The students supported by their teachers were excited about the products and looked forward to the announcement of the winning student company/school at the event.  Thus they prepared themselves for the displays, and presentations that were segments of the judging assessment.  The judges, patrons and onlookers were impressed with the improved quality of the products,  and the research done, which was evident during the judges’ assessment of the presentations.

The Dieppe Bay Primary School, one of the participating schools in the JA Our Nation Program, was an added feature to this years’ event as the students showcased careers and professions that are high in demand in the fields of medicine, military, banking, customs and culinary arts.

Following the auditing of scores the top three winners were announced – First place --the Charlestown Secondary School.  Second place--the Verchilds High School and third place --the Washington Archibald High school.  The success of the Trade Fair and the overall JA Program could not be achieved without the support of the business fraternity and other interested supportive individuals.
