BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE Sandy Point Cricket Club and Young Guns Cricket Club emerged winners on the second day of the Keeth Arthurton Nagico Windsor University T20 Tournament played at the Conaree Cricket Field on yesterday (May 17).

In the first game of the double header, Sandy Point took on the Len Harris Cricket Academy, which won the toss and opted to bowl.

Sandy Point innings got off to a brilliant start, thanks to a 50 from 36 balls from Dillin Liddie, who cleared the boundaries on many occasions.

After losing his wicket, Sandy Point’s innings failed to get any momentum until the Leeward Islands' player, Jahmar Hamilton, took to the crease and blasted a quick-fire 40, but his dismissal sparked a collapse of the team.

The Len Harris Academy fought back to restrict Sandy Point to 142-7.

Leading the fight back was Terrance Warde, who collected three wickets for 14 runs and was supported by Darren Hobson with two wickets for 18 runs.

In response, the Academy lost their most senior batsman, Lindel Richardson, in the first ball of the innings.

They then quickly lost two more wickets and were restricted to 4-3.

The Len Harris Cricket Academy's captain, Akeem Saunders, and Terrance Warde made an attempt to rescue the innings with a 45-run but lost the latter batsman after a false shot.

They continued to lose wickets at regular intervals and were eventually rattled out for 68. Sandy Point won by 79 runs.

Dillin Liddie was adjudged Man of the Match.

In the second encounter, Young Guns defeated Haynes Smith Cricket Club by six wickets.

Haynes Smith won the toss and chose to have first knock.

Captain and Leeward Islands batsman Montcin Hodge got their innings off to a good start, scoring 53 which included eight boundaries. However, after his dismissal, Haynes Smith stagnated and was on the verge of falling apart until Gavin Tonge produced some lusty blows from before losing his wicket in the run out route for 14 off five balls.

The pick of the bowlers for Young Guns were Rakeem Cornwall, who got three wickets for 18 runs and was ably supported by Hayden Walsh Jr. who collected two for 25.

Haynes Smith was bowled out for 130.

The response of Young Guns got off to a shaky start when they lost three wickets in one over to Curtis Crooke and were reeling at 23-3.

However, the daunting figure of Cornwall made its way to the crease and was joined by Walsh who, together, provided some entertainment for the crowd on hand.

Cornwall smashed 44, which included three towering sixes to power his team close to the target when he was bowled by Leroy Leader. Walsh however provided a good supporting role for Cornwall and then saw the Young Guns home, with him finishing unbeaten on 47.

Cornwall was adjudged Man of the Match.

Next Sunday will see Molineaux/Cayon battling Sandy Point at 10:00 a.m. and they will be followed by Newtown taking on Young Guns.
