    Tuesday, May 19 – The BVI Ports Authority (BVIPA) Sports and Social Club is hosting the 13th Annual Whitsuntide Games from May 21 to 25 and in doing so, will welcome over 160 participants from 10 Caribbean countries. 

     

    The annual Whitsuntide Games are organised by the ten member countries of the Association of Sports and Cultural Clubs of Caribbean Port Authorities (ASCCCPA). Member countries include Trinidad, Barbados, St. Lucia, Dominica, Antigua, St. Kitts, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Nevis, Jamaica and the BVI. 

    Information Technology Manager and President of the BVIPA Sports and Social Club Ms. Shakira Skelton said the club is busy finalising the various activities for invited guests. 

    Ms. Skelton shared, “This is the first time the BVI will be hosting the Whitsuntide Games and we are very excited as we have an excellent lineup of activities.” 

    Activities begin on Thursday, May 21 with the Executive Meeting of the ASCCCPA at the BVIPA’s Headquarters. On the morning of Friday, May 22, members will participate in a community project, followed by the Official Opening of the Games later that evening at the UP’s Cineplex. The Sports Day will be held on Saturday, May 23 at various locations including the A.O. Shirley Recreation Ground, Multipurpose Sports Complex and Althea Scatliffe School Grounds. 

    The highlight of the Whitsuntide weekend will be the Fun Day on Sunday, May 24, where members will be treated to a day out at the Annual Poker Run in North Sound, Virgin Gorda. 

    All activities will officially end on Monday, May 25 with an “All White Masquerade Party” at the Cruise Pier.

    The ASCCCPA unofficially began in 1994 when members of the St. Vincent Port Authority Sports and Cultural Club and the Barbados Port Authority Incorporated Sports and Cultural Club met over the Whitsuntide weekend to play softball, cricket and football against each other.
