Officers of the Sugar Workers Restoration Fund heading to Nevis

By: Loshaun Dixon, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – OFFICERS of the Sugar Workers Restoration Fund (SWRF) will be in Nevis later this week to provide former sugar workers on that island an opportunity to complete the registration process in order to receive their share of the EC$16M payout.

The announcement was made today (May 27) by the Prime Minister’s Press Secretary, Clecton Phillip, who also serves as Chairman of the Public Relations Committee of  the SWRF.

"As most of you would know, the office was opened last week and they have been doing a lot of work. They have had over a thousand applications so far and there have been some outreach to some communities to go to those who cannot come to the office.

"One of the outreach is going to be done on Friday in Nevis. The officers from the Sugar Workers Restoration Fund will be in Nevis on Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Federal Office on Government Road in Charlestown, Nevis. I also understand they will be going to Cayon on Friday as well," Phillip said

Phillip took the opportunity to urge those individuals who had taken application forms from the SWRF and have not yet return them, to do so immediately.

"We are also asking those persons to as soon as possible fill them out, sign them and bring them back to the office on South Independence Square Street."

The SWRF was established to pay monies to former sugar workers  who were not sufficiently compensated when the industry closed in 2005.
