Body of missing woman found in pond

DECEASED: Kishorna Challenger
By: Terresa McCall, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – AFTER hours of searching for a young woman who was believed to have drowned in a pond at the Frigate Bay golf course, her body was eventually found this evening (Jun. 8) by a man whose search lasted all of five minutes.

Information reaching this publication and which has been confirmed by the Police Force’s Press and Public Relations Officer Inspector Lyndon David, indicates that Kishorna Challenger of St. Paul's, an employee of the Royal St. Kitts Golf Club, was operating a lawn mower at the golf course from 7:30 a.m. and by 9:00 a.m. she could not be found.

David said searches were conducted and by that time she still could not be found, but it was discovered that the machine she was last seen operating was within a pond.

The machine was retrieved and it was suspected that Challenger, who it is claimed was unable to swim, might have fallen into the pond.

When SKNVibes arrived on the scene shortly after 3:00 p.m., several police officers, Ministers of Government and others individuals were gathered in the area.

It was explained to this publication that searches of the pond had been made but because of its murky state, it was virtually impossible for anyone to see.

Eventually, Kenneth Samuel of Kenneth’s Dive Centre and members of the Coast Guard joined the operation but Challenger still could not be found.

It was not until Prickley Pear Alley resident Kenrick David joined the search that Challenger’s body was discovered.

This publication understands that sometime after 6:00 p.m., David entered the pond and within five minutes he was able to locate Challenger’s body, alert the authorities and receive assistance in retrieving her.

In an interview with SKNVibes, Kenrick explained that he has been a golf ball collector for the past 28 years and as such, he has intimate knowledge of all the ponds in which he dives and this pond, at the 7th hole, is one of them.

He further explained that when he dove, he followed the natural slope of the pond and began feeling his way around and he felt what he believed to be the body of a human being.

Throughout the searching and waiting process, and more so after Challenge’s body was located, relatives and friends were overcome with grief and wailed for the return of their loved one.

Her body was removed from the scene by the undertaker after she was pronounced dead by the District Medical Officer Dr. Reginald O’Loughlin and identified by her relatives.
