By: Terresa McCall, SKNVibes

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THREE masked gunmen disrupted operations at the St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla National Bank, Saddlers Branch yesterday (Ap. 8) when they made their way into the building and heisted an undisclosed sum of money.

Details surrounding the incident are still sketchy, but according to information disseminated in a police press release, at approximately 11:00 a.m. the men “entered the...bank and robbed the tellers of a sum of money” following which they fled the scene “towards the Saddlers mountain.”

The release further informed that no one was injured during or as a result of the incident.

Unconfirmed reports received by SKNVibes indicated that the bandits made off with in excess of $10 000. This media house also learnt that the robbery took place while two customers and the bank’s security guard were in the building.

Attempts were made to contact General Manager of the St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla National Bank, Edmund Lawrence for a comment on the incident but they were all futile.

Less than four months ago, a hooded man attempted to rob the same branch of the National Bank but his effort was reportedly unsuccessful. According to reports surrounding that incident, the guard stationed there locked the door, which provides access to the building, when he saw the individual who was dressed in dark clothing, approaching with a bag.

He alerted the authorities and by the time the police arrived on the scene the hooded man was nowhere to be found.

The assistance of the public is again being solicited by the police in gathering information relative to the most recent incident.

“The Police are appealing to anyone with information on this incident to call the St. Pauls Police Station at 465-6281. Information received will be held in strict confidence.”

Investigations into the matter are being made.
