Police constables attend training in criminal investigation

    BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, APRIL 8TH 2009 (CUOPM) – Government continues to ensure that members of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force get the necessary training to sharpen their skills so that they can perform their duties professionally.
     
    Prime Minister and Minister of National Security, the Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas has approved the attendance of Constables Valon Hodge and Movelle Whattley at a Junior Criminal Investigations Course in Barbados.
     
    The course at the Regional Police Training Programme is designed to enhance the investigative skills of those officers who are required to deal with myriad criminal and quasi criminal matters which affect the respective Caribbean societies.
     
    At the end of the course on April 17th participants will be able to explain laws of evidence, prepare and give evidence in a coherent and logical manner, identify and demonstrate the stages in an investigative interview, appreciate the value of criminal intelligence to the success of an investigation, correctly apply the Judges Rules to the process of criminal investigations and function as an effective and efficient investigator.
     
    The training programme covers case file preparation, offences against property, execution of search warrants, offences against the person, forensic aids to investigations, forensic services and DNA forensic analysis, crime prevention strategies.
     
    Participants will also be trained in community policing, crime scene management and sketching, communication skill, investigative interviewing, crime intelligence as an aid to investigations, controlled drugs, legislation, identification and police procedures and critical issues and trends of drug trafficking.
     
    Electronic communication crimes, investigating sexual offences, fundamentals of house to house enquiries, care and custody of exhibits, surveillance techniques, investigation of gun related crimes and dealing with the media.
